CIVIL WAR PROGRAMS:

A Variety of Entertaining, Educational, and Dramatic Presentations from which to Choose

Dee dressed for performance

Hi. I'm Dee Ann Miller, author of Just Following Orders: Escape from Guerrilla Warfare in 1863,a story about a family caught in guerrilla warfare near the Kansas-Missouri border. This book, along with Mighty TALL Orders, a 5th-grade version of the same story, was published in August, 2014.

I have a wide range of experience, teaching and speaking to a wide variety of people from elementary students to senior citizens. So I can gear programs to fit the space, time frame, and age group of participants depending upon the need in schools, historical societies, libraries, churches, and civil groups of all sorts.

You may choose from one or more of the following topics:

  • 1) Impact of the Civil War and its aftermath on various groups of children--those in border states, in the Deep South, the northern states, including children still caught in slavery or with parents re-establishing lives as freedmen.
  • 2) Impact of the suspension of the writ of habeas corpus
  • 3) How religious extremism on both sides contributed to the escalation of violence, especially in Kansas and Missouri
  • 4) Special problems faced by residents along the Kansas-Missouri border in the mid-19th century, especially following the Emancipation Proclamation.
  • 5) Putting it All in Perspective (Order Number 11, an unprecedented executive order, issued in 1863, that left 20,000 homeless, regardless of political affiliation)
  • 6) Voices of Peace in the Civil War

Costs vary, depending upon multiple variables. Please email me for more information and references.
